Lightyear Frontier Crossplay: Steam, Xbox and PS5
Lightyear Frontier crossplay explained: Steam and Xbox players can farm together, PS5 and Switch 2 cannot, and there is no local split-screen mode.
Lightyear Frontier supports crossplay between Steam and Xbox. A PC player and an Xbox player can join the same co-op world, up to four players total. There is no PlayStation 5 version and no local split-screen mode.

Which platforms support crossplay?
| Platform | Crossplay with Steam | Crossplay with Xbox |
|---|---|---|
| Steam (PC) | Yes | Yes |
| Xbox Series X / S | Yes | Yes |
| PlayStation 5 | No version | No version |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | No version | No version |
The Steam store page lists Cross-Platform Multiplayer as a feature, and the official 1.0 build keeps it enabled. The Xbox version is the same content, so version mismatch is not an issue as long as both players are on 1.0.
How does crossplay work?
Crossplay is handled through the game's session system, not a separate account link:
- The host starts a world and opens it to multiplayer.
- The host invites players from the platform friend list or shares the session.
- Guests join from Steam or Xbox.
- Progress is shared in the host's world.
You do not need a Coffee Stain account or a separate crossplay login. The platform account is enough.
One caveat: the host's world is the save. If the host is on Xbox and the guest is on Steam, the world lives on the host's account. Guests cannot continue that world alone.
Is there a PS5 version?
No. Lightyear Frontier is available on PC via Steam and on Xbox Series X and S. The developers have said they are looking into other platforms, but there is no PS5 release date, no confirmed port and no crossplay with PlayStation.
Any page that lists a PS5 release date is either guessing or confusing the Xbox launch. Treat "coming to PS5" as unconfirmed until an official announcement appears.
Is there a Switch 2 version?
No. Nintendo Switch 2 is not a supported platform in the 1.0 build, and there is no announced port. The same rule applies: no date, no confirmation, no crossplay.
Is there local co-op or split-screen?
No. Lightyear Frontier is online co-op only. The Steam feature list includes Online Co-op and Cross-Platform Multiplayer, but not Shared/Split Screen. Two players on one console or one PC cannot play together locally.
That makes crossplay the only way to play with someone on a different device, and it makes a stable internet connection part of the setup.
What do you need for crossplay?
- A copy of the game on Steam or Xbox.
- An internet connection for both players.
- The same game version (1.0 or later).
- A host who is willing to keep the world.
There is no subscription requirement on PC. On Xbox, online multiplayer may require the platform's online service tier; check the console's store listing for the current requirement.
